creative workshops

In traditional central Asian culture, people enhanced their everday lives with colourful, exuberant and decorative textiles, clothing and domestic artefacts. Whether a painted saddle, an embroidered dowry cloth, a childs patchwork hat or a small bag to carry equipment, each item was created with the same level of care and infused with the spirit of the maker.  Embroidered textiles were the exclusive domain of women, who worked proudly in the knowledge that their skill with a needle or loom would be understood, appreciated and treasured by future generations.

Thankfully, a women’s worth is no longer assessed by her handwork skills but there is something enormously satisfying about producing a piece of handwork of ones own.  In the same spirit that has traditionally inspired generations of artisans, we run creative workshops for children and adults designed to teach new skills, extend your existing knowledge, and most importantly foster the appreciation, use and enjoyment of different textile traditions.

we believe in using quality natural fibres teaching correct skills giving knitters the confidence to adapt patterns, create patterns, change yarn and ensure correct fit.
