ak is very much ‘a work in progress’. A lot of what we do evolves organically as a result of suggestions and reaction from our customers. And because we work in close relationships with artisans in central Asia we are able to explore new ideas as they develop. This has certainly been the case with our successful range of handmade felt dolls. What started out as an individual doll has expanded into a complex story comprising lots of inter–related chapters. Working to ak designs, artisans in central Asia now hand make an entire family of dolls of various ethnicities – knitters iin Melbourne produce beautifully finished knitted outfits while ‘upstairs at ak’ in Prahan we run bi-weekly workshops where children learn to knit and sew, creating outfits for their dolls – new babies receive personalised dolls created using our unique doll kits – and children and adults alike admire and covet our range of designer dolls clothes and accessories. All ak dolls are created from handmade wool felt and are dressed in only the highest quality natural fibres. I hope you will read on and learn more about this aspect of the ak project...
